We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Social Worker within the Mental Health Team to provide assessment, care and support to residents of Gateshead.
Important information about the role. The Government mandatory covid vaccination legislation effective from 11 November 2021 means that the successful candidate will be required to show evidence of having been fully vaccinated unless you have a medical exemption (certified in writing by a medical professional), due to the fact that they will be working in, or may be required to visit in a professional capacity, a site where mandatory vaccination is a requirement. Please note that you will be required to show evidence of your vaccination or exemption status as part of the pre-employment checks.
You will have a Social Work qualification (MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW, CQSW or CSS or equivalent) and be registered with the Social Work England. You will have experience of working with people (and their carers) with mental health, physical health needs and Learning Disabilities in assessment work and arranging packages of care and an understanding of the reviewing and monitoring process. Experience of managing risk and being involved in the safeguarding process is also essential.
You must have knowledge of relevant legislation including Hospital discharge guidance, The Care Act 2014, Safeguarding Adults Legislation Policy, The Mental Health Act (amended 2007), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Continuing Health Care and section 117. You will have the ability to interpret this legislation and apply it to practice while adhering to the Local Authority's statutory responsibilities.
You will have effective communication skills and be committed to equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice, as well as having experience in problem solving and evidencing decisions in a timely manner. You will have excellent IT skills and the ability to prioritise your workload and diary and manage competing demands.
It is essential that you are able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative and have the ability to identify when support, advice and guidance is required. Maintenance of the Local Authority's social care database including the accurate recording of case observations is essential. You will have knowledge of social work theories and be able to work in a person-centred way using a strengths- based approach.
It is also essential that you have a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support.
A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to undertake relevant training as required by the Local Authority is essential.
