Gateshead Council is a visionary and ambitious Local Authority - ambitious for Gateshead the place, and for the people who live and work here. We have made significant investment into our Adult Social Care Service.
As a result, we have created a number of new and exciting roles to manage the Council’s approach to its residents ‘Living Thriving Lives’, as part of the Council’s Strategic Approach ‘Thrive’.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a major contribution in transforming our Adult Mental Health services.
You will be responsible for managing our Social Work and Assessment Mental Health Team, which incorporates our Core AMHP services as well as complex care and support management for adults with functional mental illness. You will be part of a supportive and skilled group of Team Managers across the service who provide day to day leadership and support to our frontline practitioners, and also assist the Service Manager to provide leadership, management/professional oversight on all issues relating to the Mental Health assessment service in Adult Care.
You will have extensive experience within social care, including Adults’ Mental Health legislation, practice and procedures. You may already operate as a Team Manager and wish to take on a new challenge, or you may be looking to move into a management role. As a minimum you will have significant experience in Mental Health Social Work, with an excellent working knowledge of legislative and statutory requirements, and evidence of your ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with relevant partners, including the NHS and Police.
You will be highly effective at working within deadlines and undertaking performance review and planning activities. You will be highly skilled and proficient in positive risk taking and risk management approaches and have a comprehensive understanding of Safeguarding and Vulnerability.
You must hold a Social Work qualification or equivalent i.e. MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW CQSW or CSS, and ideally hold (or have held) an AMHP qualification. You must also have a current registration with Social Work England. It is also essential that you hold a current UK driving Licence and access to a car or means of mobility support.
Ideally, you will have experience of strategic and project planning and hold a management qualification and / or have undergone a significant management training programme. We are striving to be a Learning Organisation, so a commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to undertake relevant training as required by the Local Authority is essential – in return we offer a comprehensive management/leadership training programme and support and opportunities with career development.
If successful you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
