Energy Projects Team Leader

We are seeking a keen, motivated and committed individual to become the Energy Services Team Leader, who will be responsible for leading a busy and diverse team of project managers delivering our innovative and market leading energy projects.

About the role….

You will join the team at an exciting time as our District Energy Scheme continues to expand following the recent addition of our mine water heat pump, looking at adding new connections and growing our offering.  In addition, the team is embarking on new projects involving more district heat networks, home insulation and renewable energy schemes – most of which are funded by public grants.

You will report directly to the Energy Services Manager, and line manage a team of 4 officers, being responsible for:

• leading the team to support them to grow and develop in their roles
• project management overview, from project initiation through to delivery
• contract management related to the projects, typically NEC
• ensuring projects are compliant in areas such as health and safety
• customer and contractor relations management
• engaging with stakeholders
• liaising with other corporate programmes
• and any other duties appropriate for the grade.

Knowledge we’re looking for:

• government policy and legislation on energy schemes
• local energy policies and issues in Gateshead
• low carbon and renewable technologies, ideally around heat networks
• a degree OR equivalent experience in an energy, environmental or sustainability discipline.

• business case development
• working within energy and/or carbon legislation
• contractual discussions and negotiation

The post is a permanent position, 37hrs per week, at M-grade (£49,764 - £52,805), and will be based in Gateshead Civic Centre, but able to hybrid work remotely as well.

The Energy Services section is an award winning team, responsible for overseeing energy and sustainability issues in Gateshead, as the Council aims toward becoming Zero Carbon by 2030. The section also manages the Council's portfolio of energy generation schemes, which includes Gateshead District Energy Scheme, mine water heat pump, and urban solar farms.
