Homeless Prevention Officer
Gateshead’s Housing Solutions Service is expanding and we’re looking for several new staff to join our team.
Our statutory homelessness service including in our Housing Solutions Team, has several homeless pathways including our Homeless Prevention Pathways for Offenders, Mental Health and Hospital Discharge, as well as Migration, Rough Sleepers and Domestic Abuse Pathways. We also manage temporary homeless accommodation in Gateshead and work with external agencies to provide accommodation and support to people. We are looking to develop our service offer, and are looking for dynamic people to help us to do this.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Homeless Prevention Officer to join our brilliant team on a part time basis for 12 months, working with customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and who are involved with secondary mental health services or who are ready from discharge from hospital but have no suitable accommodation to return to.

About the role….
Reporting to the Housing Solutions Team Leader you will work with clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will be responsible for interviewing, assessing and identifying homeless prevention options while working with external partners, agencies and other internal sections such as hospital wards, community mental health professionals and social work teams to improve outcomes for our customers. The post will include home visits to some clients to help assess their situation.
We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with a passion and commitment to support homeless households. You will have a strong commitment to excellent customer care, equality, diversity and inclusion. You will be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing.
You will be dealing with people face to face in potentially difficult situations, and managing and prioritising a complex caseload. You will be able to work with vulnerable people and non-judgemental in your outlook and approach.

Job Profile
Gateshead Libraries and Heritage service offers free access to books and computers from eight libraries across Gateshead. In addition, we deliver a broad activities programme for all ages in libraries and other community venues. Activities include rhymetimes for families with young children, holiday activities, readers groups and author visits, creative and digital activities and a programme of heritage events.
We require an enthusiastic Libraries and Heritage Manager to lead and develop our Children and Young People's team.
This team delivers a creative programme of activities to inspire children of all ages. Our free, quality books for children improve literacy and speech and language development from an early age. The Children and Young People’s team promote a love of reading and school readiness with young children. They deliver programmes such as Bookstart and the Northern Children’s Book Festival. They support national initiatives in schools such as Children’s Mental Health Week and Empathy Week, and also support and deliver holiday activities for vulnerable children.
Our work with young people supports positive mental health by empowering young people to co-create activities. Delivery of this work is from libraries and also from a number of other settings including schools, community venues and in partnership with Family Hubs.
As part of the Library Management Team you will also take an active role in the management of Libraries and Heritage services, including developing services to meet changing need, and developing new partnerships to strengthen our offer. You will manage staff and resources. You will act as Senior on Duty for the Service, dealing with urgent management requests as they arise.
You will have experience of substantial experience of developing services in the library, heritage or other relevant sector. You will also have experience of staff management, partnership working and programme development.
You will have a degree in Library and Information Management or equivalent.

The Shared Lives Service provides an alternative to traditional care, support and accommodation for adults with additional needs, such as a learning disability, autism and dementia. The service supports self-employed Shared Lives Carers across Gateshead who open their homes and their lives to others, providing short break support and longer-term arrangements.
The Shared Lives Support Worker is the first point of contact for the Shared Lives Carers, for advice, guidance, and direct support. They are instrumental in supporting through induction, monitoring and supervision, as well as achievement and development processes. The Shared Lives Support Worker ensures that the care and support provided is appropriate to meet the identified needs of the individuals accessing the arrangement and is provided in accordance with the Care Quality Commission Regulations, the service policies and procedures, health and safety legislation, care and support plans.
The Shared Lives Support Worker is expected to Support the Shared Lives Carers to acquire and maintain the skills and knowledge to fulfil their role. The worker supports the Shared Lives Carers to have a positive relationship with those they support, which is respectful of individual right to privacy, choice, dignity, enabling the person to maintain and develop their independence and to be a valued member of their community.
It is essential that you have experience of supporting vulnerable adults, and experience of working both independently and as a positive team member. It is important that you can demonstrate effective written, verbal and electronic communication skills and that you have achieved a minimum qualification such as a National Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
